Compliance Officer

Details of the offer

Are you a confident, energetic people person who has a working knowledge of the principles and techniques of investigating offenses, applying legislation, and interacting with people and animals? Are you looking for an opportunity to support your community by delivering education and enforcement through cooperative compliance? This could be the role for you!
Every day brings new opportunities when you are part of our team at Taupo District Council. Our diverse organisation is recognised for its vibrant energy, optimism for the future, ambition to act boldly and willingness to do things differently to secure the best result. We take a balanced and community-focused approach that allows us to strive with consideration on behalf of our district. We are motivated by ensuring we are a district of connected communities who thrive and embrace opportunities and hold this greater purpose in mind in all that we do.
This is an awesome opportunity to broaden your experience whilst applying your existing skills and expertise. As a Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for investigating complaints, monitoring, and enforcing acts, regulations, and by-laws, and providing animal management services.
This role is extremely varied - no two days are the same! It's highly rewarding, and you will be heavily involved with every part of our community doing your best to maintain our high delivery standards. In a typical day you can expect to:
Provide professional, high-quality support for the Council and our community
Collaborate with the team to share information, expertise and achieve positive results
Interact sensitively with people that may be under stress
Investigate complaints, document, and record outcomes
Deal with animals (mostly dogs but often horses, stock, and poultry)
Patrol our many open spaces
You'll need to be prepared to work and travel all over the beautiful district of Taupo on a rostered basis including some on call and afterhours tasks. You will have the ability to work collaboratively with a very motivated group of people. You'll bring a great attitude, flexibility, ability to think quickly, adapt readily and proactively seek the best outcomes.
Our team is guided by the values of working together to achieve the best possible outcomes for the communities we serve. As well as sharing that drive, we are looking for someone who possesses:
Exceptional communication skills
The willingness to go the extra mile
A good level of fitness in order to carry out the physical aspects of the role
Conflict management and negotiation skills
Compliance and enforcement experience (desired but not necessary)
Animal management experience (desired but not necessary)
Our people are accomplished, capable, and driven by curiosity to learn more - about the council, its impact, and their own potential. Your career aspirations will be encouraged, whether you're just starting out or an expert. Our strengths-based environment will enable you to be the best version of yourself at work.
If this sounds like you and you want to make a difference in how we engage with our community, we want to hear from you.
CLOSING DATE: 28th November 2024 at 5pm or when the vacancy is filled.
