This is an opportunity to join our team on Banks Peninsula as a Community Development Advisor to help lead the co-creation, promotion and delivery of community development activities and programmes that contribute to building capability and capacity of communities throughout Banks Peninsula.
Can you skilfully navigate systems and broker great working relationships between groups with different interests, for the wider good of the community? 
Are you able to work alongside local community groups to support community-driven initiatives which help build stronger and more resilient communities?
As a Community Development Advisor, you'll be culturally aware and empower local people with diverse backgrounds to enhance their own well-being. You'll work alongside communities to establish and support successful partnerships, engaging them to find their own solutions to their own identified issues; all the while building social connectedness and community capacity.
You'll provide information and advice to community organisations and other stakeholders to help them understand and navigate local government, facilitating partnerships between communities and the Council which support self-sustaining communities and meeting the Council's outcomes.
You'll also provide professional advice and recommendations to decision-makers regarding the use and management of resources and take a lead role in implementing the goals of the Council's Strengthening Communities Together Strategy as well as the Council's various Community Grants Schemes.
To meet the challenges of this role, you'll have exceptional communication skills with proven experience in building and maintaining positive relationships. You'll be someone who can naturally recognise opportunities and develop pragmatic responses to community issues, as well as self-motivated, and service-driven.
As a professional and collaborative individual, you'll be an ambassador for the Christchurch City Council working with community groups, elected members, government agencies as well as with other Christchurch City Council units. You'll have a very high level of attention to detail, demonstrated experience in community development and working with a local authority or government/community organisation. You'll have a tertiary qualification in community or international development, social sciences, communications or relevant or associated field.
Working around the Peninsula, meetings outside of business hours are required as part of the role so you will be flexible in your hours and flexi-time will be offered in return.

Additional information: Hours of work -Permanent Part Time 24/hrs per week 
Location - This position is primarily based at Lyttelton Recreation Centre
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $93,200 - $103,556 per annum. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
