Who We Are / Ko Wai Matou Hiku The name comes from the Maori word for 'whale tail' and is inspired by Kaikoura's most iconic attraction. It is also influenced by the strong historic and modern culture and heritage of the area. We celebrate this and show off what Kaikoura is all about - kai moana, fresh produce, marine life, and dramatic sea and mountain scapes.
Sudima Kaikoura is a new 4.5-star hotel on the esplanade of Kaikoura's waterfront, conveniently located at the end of the town centre. The hotel has spectacular 360 views of the seaward Kaikoura mountain range, waterfront and peninsula with a high quality fit-out, 120 well-appointed rooms, restaurant, bar, conference facilities and infinity pool.
The Role | Te Mahi We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Commis Chef at Hiku, our new restaurant at Sudima Kaikoura. We are looking for experienced Chef's with creative skills and a desire to innovate and ensure consistent quality food. We value working together as one and all contributing to team results. The Hiku kitchen team will offer our guests room service, an a la carte restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and conference and events catering.
This fixed term role (minimum 10 hours per week) is based at Sudima Kaikoura, start date will be on September. This role is based in beautiful Kaikoura, a 2.5 hour drive from Christchurch, make this fantastic region your home!
Responsibilities | Nga haepapa Preparation and cooking of meals Supporting with kitchen services and cleaning Following the guidance of the Senior chefs Follow and enforce strict health and hygiene standards Requirements At least three years of relevant experience or the candidate has NZQF Diploma (ANZSCO Skill Level 2) Planning and organizing skills and an ability to work individually and in a team Ability to multi-task, show flexibility and meet deadlines, work under pressure.
