Lead a high performing team.
Auckland based, reporting to the Head of Corporate and Commercial.

Your new role
As the Commercial Underwriting Lead - International, you will play a pivotal role in shaping underwriting strategy and leading a team of skilled underwriters to drive growth, profitability, and operational excellence.
This role requires both strategic insight and hands-on technical expertise, with a focus on managing and strengthening relationships with major trading partners to support mutual business growth.
Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement strategic goals for underwriting portfolios to achieve profitable growth aligned with business objectives.
Major Partner Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for our major trading partners, fostering collaborative relationships that enhance business opportunities and align with strategic goals.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead, manage, and mentor a team, cultivating a culture of engagement, collaboration, and high performance.
Technical Expertise: Underwrite complex new business and renewals, provide specialist technical guidance, and act as a key authority on underwriting policies, guidelines, and industry standards.
Risk Management: Review and authorise risks within underwriting guidelines and authority levels, ensuring compliance with agreed SLAs, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements.
Continuous Improvement: Contribute to quality improvement processes to enhance underwriting operations, ensure adherence to policies, and uphold compliance standards.

About you

Extensive experience in commercial underwriting with a focus on managing key partner relationships.
Strong people management skills, with a track record of leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.
Proven ability to cultivate and manage strong partnerships with major trading partners, brokers, and intermediaries.
Advanced technical underwriting knowledge and a strategic approach to navigating complex business requirements.
Dedication to regulatory compliance and business standards, with a proactive approach to managing risk.
