This role will be exposed to all the disciplines of retail management – from customer insight, day to day operations, helping inform leasing, commercial development, legal. In addition, it will be working within the wider scope of other airport functions so has incredible access to a diverse world of airport business.
The Commercial Manager – Retail will ensure the ongoing development, management, and execution of Auckland Airport's retail portfolio at the International and Domestic terminals. This role is a key part of the 'in life' retail operations and performance team, ensuring tenant licence obligations are met and that the retail portfolio is well managed ensures Auckland Airport is a high performing, commercially savvy and reputable landlord.
Your key responsibilities are:
Day-to-day management of the retail tenants
Managing the overall 'in life' retail operations and tenant licence obligations
Ensure the retail offer delivered by retailers is in line with their licence, and the airport's retail strategy and business operations as it evolves
Provide insightful analysis and reporting to explain retail performance at various levels
Build relationships with relevant teams, obtaining key information to best inform retail planning and explain retail operations and performance
Ensure retailers are delivering an appropriate level of service and providing high quality customer experience during operational hours
Ensure retailers are well-informed and kept up to date with accurate and relevant information as well as take ownership for curating any retailer communications
Partner with the relevant retail team members with retail projects, retail leasing, retail operations, events, terminal activities, and operational issues as required.
Working with the relevant manager and/or tenant, assist in addressing customer feedback issues raised with retailers, and provide summary information to the retail leadership team regarding customer feedback/satisfaction with the retail offering
What you'll bring to the role
We are seeking an experienced, driven, commercially savvy Commercial Manager to join our high performing team and take accountability for a diverse mix of retail performance and operations, including F&B, specialty, premium/luxury retail as well as exposure to unique duty-free and travel retail business.
To ensure your success in this role, you will need:
Relevant tertiary qualification i.e., business, commerce, management or tourism
Minimum of 6 years retail account management experience or similar
Excellent relationship-building skills at all levels of the organisation
Ability to build credibility with key internal and external stakeholders and influence these groups effectively
Strong business acumen
Detail focus and a diligent approach with a drive for continuous improvement
Strong skills in applying legal requirements to day-to-day operations
Proven experience and strong competency in financial reporting, analysis, and monitoring within a retail environment
An ability and willingness to work ad hoc hours from time to time during terminal operational hours
An ability to drive and follow the resolution of issues in a complex situation and challenging environment.
