Job Description A Collection Care member jumping the ditch has opened a permanent opportunity for a new Collection Manager, Relocations and Storage to join the team.
The Collection Manager, Relocations and Storage is responsible for the oversight and management of the offsite collection facility and delivering expert physical care, handling and professional storage of Museum collection items.
This varied role includes management of various object stores, collections laboratory, quarantine, anoxic and workshop, as well as assisting Collections and Exhibition personnel with planning in relation to decants of galleries and stores and accurately recording object location data in the CMS Vernon system.
The successful candidate will be required to work predominantly in South Auckland, with regular transportation between sites and limited time based onsite at the Museum.
As a result, a full drivers license is required, along with the flexibility to travel between and operate at different worksites.
Also important is the ability to safely operate elevated work platform and lifting equipment including walkie reach forklifts and scissor decks.
Desired Skills and Experience To be successful in this role, you will offer: Minimum of 3 years' related experience in a museum or heritage institution Sound Collection Management System experience, preferably Vernon Extensive knowledge and experience in the safe handling, packing, unpacking and storage of museum artefacts A Tertiary qualification relevant to the Museum's collections and activities, with Museum Studies or Preventive Conservation highly desirable Competency in MS Office Suite and the ability to utilise online tools for project management and reporting Experience in the safe operation of elevated work platform and mechanical equipment such as forklifts, scissor decks etc.
Metal and/or wood working experience (crate and pallet making), with experience using workshop machines and tools Closing Date: 23 October 2024 You must be currently eligible to work in New Zealand to be considered for this permanent position.
Starting salary guide: $68,000 - $72,000pa dependent on experience.
