We are seeking a driven individual for our Code Compliance Certificate Assessor role based at our Central Auckland office, working as part of the Building Consents team.
This role ensures Auckland Council is satisfied on reasonable grounds that compliance with the Building Act 2004 has been achieved with the approved building consent and legislative requirements. This is achieved through effective reviewing and assessment of the approved building consent (plans, building consent conditions, and inspection records) and timely issuing of Code Compliance Certificates.
You will be responsible for enhancing customer experience and team performance by providing professional advice, building technical expertise, and guidance to our customers to assist them through the final stages of their construction projects.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
Ensuring that building and development work comply with relevant regulatory and safety legislation and building codes by reviewing and assessing relevant certification and documentation and keeping records up to date and accurate.
Notifying customers of any information deficiencies and providing technical guidance on required documentation/certification to ensure requirements are met.
Increasing customer understanding of regulatory requirements and processes, guiding customers through appropriate application processes and policies, and helping them develop alternative approaches to achieve desired outcomes.
Enhancing the decision-making process and streamlining core procedures through adherence to established organisational values.

As an integral part of the team, you will possess sound technical skills and understanding and be a good team player with close working relationships within the processing, inspection, engineering, and administration teams and other areas within the council. Your ability to effectively collaborate with various teams and exercise good judgment and decision-making skills when resolving issues will be crucial in ensuring that all tasks are accomplished efficiently.
To excel in this role, it is crucial to adopt a customer-focused approach, maintain open communication, and embrace a mindset of continuous improvement. You should possess a keen attention to detail and be highly organised, with solid time management and prioritisation abilities. Moreover, your ability to adhere to established policies and procedures at all times will play a vital role in achieving success in this position.
We will be looking for specific experience with:
A good knowledge and understanding of the Building Act 2004 and the New Zealand Building Regulations and Codes.
Experience in building construction or design qualification/courses, building inspections or construction management.
A recognised building-related qualification (Building Control Surveying / Construction/ Architecture) or at least 3-5 years of practical experience in a building-related field would be encouraged, although not essential.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and a good level of computer literacy.
