Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and highly organised individual to join our research team as a part-time or full-time Clinical Research Scientist. The Clinical Research Scientist will be working with Ocellus, a dynamic start-up that has developed an eye-tracker for the diagnosis of concussion and other neurological disorders. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in facilitating research projects by undertaking comprehensive literature searches, managing submissions to ethics committees, and possessing a strong foundation in statistical methods.
The successful applicant will be proactive and enthusiastic, show effective time management skills, and be able to work with clinicians, allied health workers, and scientists. An analytical thinker, you will be proficient in solving problems and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities: Literature Review:Conduct thorough literature searches to identify relevant studies, publications, and data related to ongoing and upcoming research projects.Summarise and critically analyse existing literature to inform research design and methodologies.Ethics Committee Submissions:Prepare and compile documentation for submissions to ethics committees, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.Communicate effectively with ethics committees to address inquiries and facilitate the approval process.Research Project Support:Collaborate with principal investigators and research teams to develop and refine research protocols.Assist in the coordination of research activities, including participant recruitment, data collection, and project timelines.Coordinate data collection with AUT, summer students, Wellington, and A&E.Work with our Chief Regulatory Officer to collect data for FDA requirements and assist with the necessary paperwork.Statistical Analysis:Possess a solid understanding of statistical methods to support the design and implementation of research studies.Undertake statistical analysis for publications, the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU), and other key projects.Collaborate with statisticians to analyse research data and interpret results for research reports and publications.Data Management:Oversee the collection, organization, and management of research data, ensuring accuracy and integrity.Collaborate with data management teams to develop and maintain databases for research projects.Funding and Grant Applications:Identify external funding bodies and apply for grants, including AMRF, the Neurological Foundation, and HRC.Work with ACC to explore and secure funding opportunities for research initiatives.Publication Development:Begin writing papers based on the data collected so far.Develop white papers for various collaborations and partnerships.Compliance and Documentation:Stay abreast of regulatory guidelines and ensure adherence to ethical standards in research activities.Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of all research activities and outcomes.Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., science, biomedical science epidemiology) or towards the end of the degree.PhD is helpfulProven experience in producing literature reviews and preparing ethics committee submissions.Strong statistical background with the ability to apply statistical methods to research design and data analysis.Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft packages.Proficiency in relevant software for data analysis (e.g., SPSS, R, or SAS).Familiarity with research regulations and ethical guidelines.Attributes: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Track record in writing and publishing research papers and grantsExcellent organisational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and precision.Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.Benefits: Flexible employment practices (including working from home, flexible hours).Competitive salary to match your experience.Work-life balance – the position is available PART-TIME or FULL-TIME – ability to pick your hours between 16-40 hours per week.How to Apply: If you are a highly motivated and organised individual with a passion for contributing to the advancement of healthcare through clinical research, we'd love to hear from you.
