Mo te turanga - About the role
We are looking for a qualified pharmacist to join our friendly and supportive team. This position provides opportunities to work within an experienced team passionate about the health and wellbeing of our community. You will provide clinical pharmacy services across various areas such as medical, surgical, assessment and rehabilitation, mental health, critical care, emergency, and more. You will learn about all areas of the pharmacy service, including oncology and outpatient pharmacy, and participate in quality improvement activities and projects.
The clinical pharmacy service plays an integral role in medicines management and patient safety. Education is a strong emphasis within the service, including providing information to patients, caregivers, and whanau on the safe and effective use of medicine and ongoing training and education to prescribers and nursing.
Key tasks include:
Provision of clinical pharmacy services including medication review and optimisation, antimicrobial stewardship, therapeutic drug monitoring, medicine reconciliation, discharge facilitation, and patient counselling
Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
Provision of education to patients, caregivers, and whanau on safe and effective use of medicines
Liaising with community providers to ensure patient continuity of care
Provision of ongoing training and education to prescribers and nursing
Contributing towards quality improvement and medication safety initiatives
The pharmacy department is committed to providing support for ongoing professional development. The department provides regular continuing education and numerous other training opportunities, including a training package for pharmacists new to the hospital. There is funding for further studies, courses, and conferences, as well as full funding of APC and professional membership fees.
As a small team, you will be encouraged and supported to 'have a go' at everything, which will both challenge and extend your clinical experience and skills.
This position would be suitable for those wanting to start their hospital pharmacy career and who would like a variety of hospital pharmacy experiences. Current intern pharmacists who are eligible for the Assessment Centre in November 2024 are welcome and encouraged to apply.

We are looking for someone who:
Is a New Zealand registered pharmacist with a current annual practising certificate and scope of practice which enables the undertaking of the duties of this position.
Previous experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is advantageous but not essential.
Has excellent communication skills (in both verbal and written language)
Has a strong patient and medication safety focus
Is a team player
Can demonstrate entry-level clinical skills and knowledge or above.
Has well-developed time management and problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and adapt to an ever-changing health environment
Has a high degree of accuracy
Is computer literate
