The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Stomal Therapy leads the service, with the objective of maximising service users' self-management, independence, and quality of life to minimise health complications arising from ostomy.
The CNS Stomal Therapy takes a lead role in researching, developing, implementing, and evaluating standards of care, in line with evidence-based practice in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
As a senior nurse, the CNS Stomal Therapy leads the development of service-specific pathways, protocols, and guidelines, in accordance with the National Service Framework, Transitional and Support Services - Stomal Therapy Services Tier Three service specification DOM 103.
This service is available for all ages and includes:
Patients who already have a stoma, either temporary or permanent.Preoperative care for people with a potential for ostomy following surgery.The Stomal Therapy team is supported by the Specialist Community Health Nursing Service and consists of 1.4FTE of Stomal Therapy and dedicated District Nursing Stoma support.
The current Stomal Therapy team provides an excellent environment for growth and supports the development of clinical skills, along with clinical support, mentoring, and opportunities for professional development.
You will be a registered nurse with a postgraduate qualification relevant to the role or working towards this as part of your PDRP. You will have 4-5 years of post-registration experience in Community Nursing, Endoscopy, and/or General Surgical Nursing.
Previous stoma-related experience would be an advantage, along with a sound knowledge of the pathophysiology of stomal-related procedures.
The successful candidate will have the ability to build rapport quickly, be IT savvy, and possess a full driver's license.
