Clinical Lead, National Mortality Review

Te Tahu Hauora Health Quality and Safety Commission (Te Tahu Hauora) is a stand-alone Crown entity with a board responsible to the Minister of Health. Te Tahu Hauora is responsible for assisting providers, both private and public, across the whole health and disability sector to improve service safety and quality and therefore outcomes for all those who use these services in Aotearoa New Zealand. The role:

The primary purpose of this role is to understand the basis for inequities in perinatal and maternal outcomes for Pacific women and their babies. There will be opportunities to contribute to an understanding of inequities in diabetes-related mortality and contribute to organisational understandings of Pacific engagement with health services and health interventions. This role will be fixed term for three years, ending in December 2027.

The Clinical Lead will facilitate engagement with health sector professionals on issues arising from the mortality review process, with a particular focus on collaborating to address inequities in avoidable mortality.

This role will champion clinical perspectives linking the mortality review programme with the health sector and will involve:

Clinical leadership

Relationship management

Mortality review advice

This role sits within the National Mortality Review Management Group. The group's work includes supporting the National Mortality Review Committee (NMRC), subject matter experts and local review function.

About you:

To be successful in this position, you will need:

Clinical expertise with an understanding of complex health environments.

A tertiary qualification in clinical or health-related discipline.

Professional membership is advantageous.

Understanding of health inequities in Aotearoa New Zealand and policy approaches.

Strong links with Pacific health communities.

Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Knowledge of healthcare quality principles and international trends.
