Civil Engineering Summer Internship

Details of the offer

Hick Bros Civil Construction Ltd is a privately owned, family-values based organisation and a market leader in complex earthworks/civil and infrastructure projects. We are a self-performing contractor with one of the largest fleets of heavy machinery in the country.
What's on offer? We're looking for 2x Civil Engineering students to come on as Summer Intern/Labourers and join our Hawkes Bay based team for the upcoming earthworks season. The role will include exposure to civil engineering on site, shadowing our site engineers, labouring work and learning to operate some heavy machinery (e.g. dump truck, roller).
About the Role: In this role, you'll get to work on some of New Zealand's largest and highest profile civil construction projects. As an Intern/Labourer with Hick Bros, you'll be exposed to all aspects of being a main contractor from ground works/labouring through to contract administration, survey, H&S and environmental controls.
We take pride in developing our Interns to be able to progress their skills outside of the physical build and site responsibility of a project and encourage learning the Contracts Administration aspect such as programs, claims, H&S and QA. This is made possible because we work within a well-structured framework and have a senior team that gives you the freedom to take responsibility for your work, while giving you plenty of training and support.
Suitable candidates will be able to work full time from November - February and do 12-hour days Mon – Fri and 6/7 hours every Saturday.
What we're looking for: You'll be studying a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or another equivalent qualification, ideally with some previous experience in bulk/complex earthworks and civil construction. To be successful in this role, you'll need the following:
Practical mindset, with a hands-on attitude and eager to work in the fieldPhysically fit and willing to roll up your sleeves and get stuck into manual tasks as requiredA developed understanding of Site Engineering and keen to work for a main contractorMust be available to work Monday - SaturdayFull class 1 drivers' licence and able to drive manual. A WTR licence would be advantageous What else do you need to know? To apply for this role you must have NZ residency or hold a valid work visa. All new employees must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. If the above sounds like you, then we want to chat!
