The Chief Executive provides strategic leadership and efficient management of all aspects of Council's activity. This includes the enhancement of organisational capability and accountability, and the nurturing of close relationships with mana whenua, community, regional stakeholders, business, and central government. The development of strategies that realise economic growth, foster a customer-focused and efficient organisational culture, and ensure robust financial management practices are also crucial.
Preferred candidates will be progressive, energetic, and highly influential in style. They will have open, engaging, and collaborative leadership qualities (not necessarily gained within the local or central government sectors), well-developed political and intellectual acuity, and a track record of delivering impressive results. Knowledge of issues related to public infrastructure, governance, and building trust and confidence with communities will also be important for success in this role.
