Te Whiwhinga mahi - The opportunity
We are looking for a Certification Officer to join our busy specialist team. In this role, you will be responsible for audits and investigations into areas of high risk and non-compliance within the vehicle certification sector.
Drawing on your vehicle certification experience and excellent Vehicle Inspection Requirement Manuals (VIRM) knowledge, you will regularly visit and engage with regulated parties in your region to ensure that they are meeting compliance and legislative requirements to a range of situations such as:

Routine performance reviews of Inspecting Organisations (IO's) and Vehicle Inspectors (VI's)
Assessing IO's and VI's for entry into the system
Investigating vehicle certification complaints and regional investigations against IO's and VI's
Responding appropriately to non-compliance and safety issues using a range of compliance support and enforcement interventions to ensure a safe land transport system.

You will be required to write high quality reports relating to those visits which will include your findings and implementation of statutory interventions and other regulatory activities as necessary. Reporting also includes updating of spreadsheets to include your findings, ensuring that desired outcomes are reached in a timely manner, resulting in greater safety and compliance.
Travel is a key part of this role across the Region.
About you
This is a fantastic opportunity for you to contribute towards improving standards, systems and to apply industry best practice. To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge and experience:

Strong Warrant of Fitness (WoF) and Certification of Fitness (CoF) experience
Excellent knowledge and understanding of VIRMs for CoF / WoF and the QMS
The ability to address specific issues and find resolutions within regulatory guidelines
High degree of confidence using multiple IT systems including strong skills in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Experience in interviewing
Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to write well-reasoned, articulate reports and ability to relate well with people at all levels
Excellent organisational skills to prioritise risk and competing work demands

Qualifications:

Current or recent WoF or CoF authorities
NZ Certificate in Automotive Engineering L4 or 5
Full Driver Licence is preferred with no convictions including demerits

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori.
You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
