Our cemeteries may not be your first thought when it comes to the greenspaces that the Parks and Recreation team looks after, but they are immensely important; providing a place of peaceful reflection and remembrance for our community.
Our friendly Parks Operations team are seeking a Cemetery Operator.
The roster for this position is 80 hours a fortnight to be worked 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday to Saturday week 1 and 8:00am - 5:00pm Tuesday to Friday week 2.
Key responsibilities for this role include: Prepare graves and graveside facilities for burials, in a prompt and professional manner according to our Operations Manual.Attend interments and disinterment's as required, in a professional manner ensuring a high standard of service is provided for our clients.Undertake crematorium duties, including processing of ashes, in accordance with crematorium procedures as specified in our Operations Manual.Perform mowing maintenance within the cemetery grounds, including litter removal, sumps and general roadway maintenance.Locate burial plots accurately, and ensure all burial operations and supporting documentation are recorded for burials within the Southland District.What you will bring: Full NZ Driver's Licence - Class 1High level of attention to detail and a proven desire to get things rightCommitment to customer service and delivery for our clientsCaring and empathetic demeanour, and a confidence working in an environment requiring privacy and sensitivityCompetent in Microsoft office suite including Outlook, and confident with basic software systemsA sensitivity to, and awareness of, the broad range of individuals, social, cultural, and ethnic groups within our communityWhat we offer: Career progression and training/development opportunitiesPositive focus of employee health and well-being: Workstation assessments, free flu vaccines, EAP services, 50% off eye exams, discounted gym memberships etcKiwisaver and Superannuation SchemesAccess to sick leave from day one of employmentAppointment time leave: Up to 2 hours for important appointments eg.

As a component of this role involves interaction with one or more of the above groups, as part of the assessment of candidates, we will require Police Vetting as per the Children's Act 2014 and a Pre-employment Alcohol and Drug Screening test to ensure we are providing a safe environment for our customers and members of the public.
