Catchment Operations Assistant

Environment Southland have a variety of Summer Student roles available commencing in November or December 2024.
You are eligible to apply if you are currently enrolled in a tertiary institution or have graduated this year.
All roles are offered at a rate of $27.80 per hour.
All roles are 37.5 hours per week unless specified otherwise.

Catchment Operations Assistant: Contract end date: 7 February 2025.
This role will support the Geomorphological Baseline Project within the Catchment Operations team.
The project focuses on assessing changes in river characteristics using the Natural Character Index (NCI) method.
This role offers hands-on experience in river management, GIS software use, and both historical and contemporary aerial imagery analysis.
The successful candidate will receive mentorship from the Catchment Operations team, gaining valuable skills and experience in geomorphological assessments and river management practices.
Key Responsibilities: Source and analyse historical aerial imagery for target reaches.
Georectify and orthorectify images to align with contemporary data.
Map and measure NCI parameters using ArcGIS or QGIS.
Generate shapefiles and create reports summarizing findings.
Participate in field data collection and assessments as needed.
