Canterbury Health Laboratories is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician with experience in Phlebotomy (QPT) or specimen services (QSST) to join their team in Ashburton on a casual basis. We are a small but busy laboratory where your generalist skills will be valued.
You will be part of a supportive and friendly team that has a strong focus on providing a quality laboratory service to the Ashburton community. You will bring a "can do" attitude as you work with the team of Scientists and Technicians to ensure efficient and smooth running laboratory services.
The laboratory operates between the hours of 0700 and 1800 Monday to Friday. For this casual position, we are looking for someone who is multi-talented. Although a Technician or Phlebotomist is preferred, we would also consider applications from those who possess a science qualification or relevant experience and a passion for working with people in healthcare, to join us as a Medical Laboratory Assistant.
In this role, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks including communicating with service users, blood collection (in the rooms, wards and house-calls in the community), processing specimens, data entry and responding to phone calls. You will be passionate about providing a high-quality service and be able to build trusted relationships with patients and their whanau.
About you Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with patients out in the community; The ability to work collaboratively and contribute to and improve personal and team performance; Ideally you will be registered with the Medical Sciences Council. As some travel is required within the community, a full or restricted NZ driver's license is essential. Competency with te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth. Experience in projects/initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principles and frameworks, and the application of Matauranga Maori and Kaupapa Maori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
