Reporting to the Production Manager, this full time, permanent, 45 hours a week, Monday - Friday (5.30am-3:00pm) position is available at our Riviera Prenail plant in Silverdale, Auckland. As we have now installed our 2nd production line, we are looking at taking on several additional members of staff due to increased demand.
About the role
Primarily, this role is responsible for site remedials, as well as being an active member in the factory cutting and shaping a variety of timber parts, including Frames and Trusses, ready for installation, assembling pre-prepared timber to form these frames and trusses ready to install and be erected onsite, manufacture of panelised systems, and roof framing. Following are the main duties, responsibilities, competencies, experience, and qualifications required for this role.
What will you bring? You would have Carpentry experience from site work done previously and be able to demonstrate your ability to provide solutions and remedy frames and trusses. You would have experience and an understanding of how to operate within the regulatory environment as it applies to frame and truss. You would have knowledge of NZS 3604: 2011 and an understanding of general construction methodology. You would be able to determine timber requirements and apply knowledge of floor, wall and roof construction. You would have knowledge of timber grades. You would have the ability to read technical documents and drawings. You would have an excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction including hands-on experience working with carpentry materials. You would be a competent user of nail guns and drop saws and other related tools. You would have good numeracy skills as it is applied to measuring, cutting and assembling timber. In addition to the above, you will need: You would need to have a minimum of 2 years construction, joinery, or carpentry related work experience. You would ideally have a National Certificate in Frame and Truss Manufacturing OR a National Certificate in Carpentry at NZQF level 3/4 (ANZSCO Skill Level 3). This would be beneficial but not a pre-requisite if you have the required experience mentioned above. Summary of the tasks and duties Frames: Pre-cutting framing components, materials and wood joints - cutting of components to be included in the framing e.g.: studs, nogs, lintels etc. Cutting of soffit bearer and other items to go with completed framing. Trenching of framing top and bottom plates. Assembling and nailing together the cut and shaped parts / framing components in a precise and efficient manner using either handheld nail guns, mechanic nailing machines or a hammer. Completing onsite remedials as required. Trusses: Pre-cutting truss components - cutting of truss cords, webs, sundries and rafters using either the manual system or the computer-controlled automated system. Truss fabrication - set up and pressing of Main and Jack trusses using either the rail jig system (hydraulic or pneumatic press) or the roller press system. Posi – Strut Fabrication - set up and pressing of posi-struts, using the posi-strut jigs and the pneumatic press. Beam Fabrication - set up and pressing or nailing of specially designed beams (Ganglam, Maxspan & Flitch) using either the hydraulic press or the Hilti gun depending on the beam.
