Fixed Term Capability Integration Lead role starting February 2025 until February 2027 Ko wai matou I Who we are We are the Government's lead civilian advisor on defence. We also purchase major equipment which becomes a capability when it is used by those in service of the New Zealand Defence Force.
Mo te tunga I About the role The Operational and Regulatory Aviation Compliance Sustainment Project (ORACS) is delivering platform-based capabilities that sustain effective, safe and secure air operations.
The project is being delivered in a number of phases, each phase upgrades specific aircraft with different capabilities. Going forward, the ORACS project is primarily focused on navigation and communications system upgrades to the NH90 Medium Utility Helicopter.
The Capability Integration Lead is responsible for the introduction into service of upgraded and new capabilities, including the validation and compliance to New Zealand operational standards for Performance Based Navigation and Secure Communications systems. You will engage with the development and design aspects and oversee delivery of the capability. Capability in this setting is defined as 'the personnel, equipment, platforms, and/or other material that affect the capacity of New Zealand to undertake military operations.
The ORACS Project team are primarily located in Wellington but has stakeholders in Ohakea and Brisbane. While the preference for this person is to be based in Wellington embedded in the project team, consideration can be given for a candidate to be based in other locations.

A detailed understanding of the Defence Operating Airworthiness Approval processes.Knowledge and understanding of Performance Based Navigation in a New Zealand regulatory environment.Knowledge of military helicopter flight operations and procedures (NH90 highly desirable).The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders within Defence and external suppliers.Experience working within a project/programme environment including risk management and project scheduling.Highly organised, able to multi-task and effectively manage your own time to deliver results.We ask all our people to undertake a commitment to doing their part to deliver on the Crown's commitments to Maori under Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Please note: Successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance. For this role, it means candidates must have been a New Zealand citizen for at least 10 years.
