We are seeking a Building Inspector to provide responsive and professional building control services.
This role involves delivering expert advice and inspection functions across our building control portfolio, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and balancing public safety with customer satisfaction. In this position, you will be responsible for inspecting building work and issuing notices in accordance with the New Zealand Building Act 2004.
You will investigate complaints related to building work and contribute to local and central government requirements and policies concerning building control.
You will be expected to undertake building-related tasks that require technical expertise, sound judgment, and decision-making skills.
This includes actively supporting and contributing to the delivery of integrated consenting and compliance functions by providing professional building-related advice to the Consents and Compliance Solutions team.
Your responsibilities will also involve understanding and balancing customer satisfaction, sustainable economic development objectives, public safety expectations, and environmental considerations, while effectively communicating these aspects to customers.
You will be accountable for the delivery of job-specific responsibilities in line with the department's programme of work, consistently performing to agreed outcomes and outputs.
Additionally, you will contribute to a culture of cross-organisational collective accountability for integrated consenting, compliance, and monitoring outcomes.
To excel in this role, you should be working towards or hold a National Diploma in Building Control Surveying or a relevant qualification.
Experience in Building Control or a related field is desirable, as is a demonstrated understanding of the building inspection process.
You will need highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within an inspirational team.
Strong relationship engagement skills and a customer-focused approach are essential, as is the ability to facilitate cross-organisational and cross-functional services in a matrix structure.
