Our Building Inspections team are busier than ever and we are always on the look out for qualified and experienced inspectors to join our high performing team.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
It's not just carrying out inspections, you will also be delivering professional advice and educating the industry on how and why we adhere to the Building Act. You will be responsible for:

Complete timely, accurate and concise site reports and records of site inspections in a professional and consistent manner
Verify that the construction project reflects the approved consent documents and details approval
Providing advice and/or resolving building issues from a building inspection perspective, liaising with other sections of Council as appropriate.
Resolving customer enquires and complaints
Ensuring your knowledge of the Building Act, Regulations, and Code is up to date.

What is required to be considered from this position?

A Regulation 18 Qualification, either competed or part way through completion.
At least 2 years' of experience as a Building Inspector in a BCA
At least 3 years' experience in the building industry, preferably in a wide variety of New Zealand building projects. This could be experience in design, draughting, plumbing, drainage, construction, construction supervision or any combination of above
Under National BCA Competency Assessment as being at least Res 1. Due to current workloads and constraints, we currently do not have capacity to train candidates without competency.
Ability to make appropriate decisions with regard to the building code performance clauses, using sound judgement, comprehensive research & clear reporting techniques

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street Salary - Based on a 40 hour working week.
Level 1: $71,529 - $79,477 per annum Level 2: $78,464 - $87,182 per annum Level 3: $93,200 - $103,556 per annum
Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
