Marlborough District Council – Blenheim, South Island
As the Duty Building Control Officer, you are the 'face' of the Council, providing a key link between the community and the building control group. You will act as the initial contact point providing technical advice on building-related matters. This assists the Council in meeting its statutory obligations and policies in matters relating to the Building Act, as well as Building Regulations and Building Consent Authority Accreditation Regulations.
Joining our team, you will be able to carry out the full range of duties required of a Building Control Officer and those of a Duty Building Service role. Responsibilities will include providing guidance to builders on the work that does or does not require building consent, performing building code and compliance checks, processing building consent applications, and undertaking inspections in the field. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and integrity of buildings, making it a vital part of the construction and regulatory landscape of Marlborough.
A great benefits package (including Health Insurance, Income Protection and Life Insurance, 5% Superannuation, 5 weeks annual leave).
A salary range between $88,000 to $102,000 per annum (this will depend on the qualification, knowledge, skills, and experience you have to offer).
A good mixture of indoor and outdoor work.
A workplace that supports flexibility, health, and wellbeing.
An environment where input, initiative, and innovation are encouraged.
A fantastic learning environment and support for professional development.
We are looking for someone who has:
Highly developed interpersonal and decision-making skills.
The ability to explain complex technical information and building law in a clear and understandable manner.
Qualification and/or experience in building control, building design, or building construction is essential.
Advanced working knowledge of the Building Act 2004, Building Regulations, and the NZ Building Code(s).
High emotional intelligence and empathy towards different viewpoints.
The ability to meet deadlines and timeframes, with a focus on solutions, not problems.
Digital literacy skills and a willingness to learn and adapt to new technology and software in a continuously changing environment.
