Breaking News Correspondent, Australia & New Zealand Reuters is looking for an ambitious and dynamic journalist with excellent news judgment and a flair for writing to join our breaking news team in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, covering everything from politics and economic policy to companies and commodities. The successful candidate will be part of a team that delivers breaking news coverage and helps plan and set our agenda for the day and week. Based in Sydney, the Breaking news correspondent will produce coverage across multiple topics and monitor a wide array of sources. They will be responsible for helping generate coverage across the story cycle, from news alerts and early quick hits on breaking developments, to anchoring updates on the bigger stories of the day and writing media-friendly news stories and features. As a member of the Sydney bureau, there will also be ample opportunity to pitch and execute initiative work. In order to meet coverage demands, the team works with staggered start/end times. The start time for this role will be 10.30am on most days. About the Role As a Breaking news correspondent, Australia & New Zealand , you will: Help drive our breaking news coverage across a wide range of sources and topics. Ensure we are delivering fast and accurate headlines and updates. Report and write major spot stories, as well as quickly pivot to initiative work when the need arises. Plan coverage of events and prepare for the unexpected. Work with reporters across regions and disciplines. About You To be our Breaking news correspondent, Australia & New Zealand , you will likely have: Experience in fast-paced, breaking news situations, ideally across a range of subjects. Excellent news judgment. A self-starter skilled at idea-generation who can take a story forward. Strong people and communication skills. An understanding of politics, economics and the corporate sectors in Australia and New Zealand. Skills with social media newsgathering and monitoring.
