Shape the Future of AoG System Assurance
Ready to drive meaningful change and leave a lasting impact? As an Assurance Consultant in the Digital Public Service Branch at the Department of Internal Affairs, you'll take the lead in analysing, reporting and guiding System Leads on risks and opportunities across the digital investment landscape. This is your chance to design and implement processes to guide public sector agencies toward a more connected digital future for New Zealand.
About the Role
Reporting to the Practice Lead, you'll play a key role in shifting from project-based assurance to system-level assurance. This role involves collaborating across diverse stakeholders-within DIA and the wider public sector-to deliver data-driven insights and implement practical, forward-thinking solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
Transitioning to system-level assurance, using data from multiple agencies to identify risks and opportunities.
Developing and analysing assurance indicators to guide decision-making.
Leading change management efforts, creating and embedding new processes to support system-wide improvements.
Building strong, productive relationships and influencing stakeholders to drive digital capability uplift.

As part of a small, agile team, you'll act as a change agent, providing advice, tools, and resources to support agencies in aligning with the Strategy for a Digital Public Service.
Why This Role Matters
This is your opportunity to step into an informal leadership role, improving assurance at a strategic level and helping create a more connected, efficient, and resilient digital government. Your work will have a tangible impact on public sector performance and outcomes for all New Zealanders.
What We're Looking For
To excel, you'll bring:
Experience working at a system level (overview of many agencies rather than at an individual agency level)
Reporting and monitoring experience, using data to identify risks and opportunities at an All of Government Level
Experience in developing indicators to track trends in risks and opportunities using an assurance lens
Proven relationship management and influencing skills
Exceptional communication skills to influence and engage diverse stakeholders.
The ability to collaborate across teams, foster relationships, and deliver high-quality results on time.
A passion for improving digital capability and a strong sense of purpose in your work.

Why Join Us?
At DIA, you'll join a forward-thinking team dedicated to shaping New Zealand's digital future. Every day offers variety, challenge, and the chance to make a difference. This role also supports the government's commitment to digital transformation, ensuring the public sector is equipped to thrive in an evolving digital age.
Apply Now
Bring your strategic assurance expertise and process improvement skills to this exciting role. If you're ready to make an impact, we'd love to hear from you. At DIA, we value diversity and inclusion and are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome and supported.
