ASSISTANT RECREATION SERVICES SUPERVISOR FULL TIME – BENEFITTED There are 2 positions available:
Fitness Focused Recreation focused These departmental assignments may change from time to time, and the incumbents cover for each other as required. The Assistant Recreation Services Supervisor supports the Recreation Services Supervisor in delivering tactical, operational leadership such as staff onboarding and training, scheduling staff, and other administrative duties to the fitness and recreation teams, as assigned. They are responsible for the safety & supervision of staff and patrons during a range of community fitness and recreation program operations.
Success in this position requires a customer-service orientation, with a high degree of flexibility, creativity, and leadership.
The willingness and ability to work varying schedules to meet operational requirements is expected for this position.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A diploma in Recreation or Fitness Administration completed or substantially in progress is preferred. Preference will be given to those who are developing education and skills in recreation or fitness administration. Minimum three (3) years' experience in recreation and/or fitness, including at least one (1) year experience in a supervisory role. Any of these in combination are considered assets in these positions:
Current Group Fitness Instructor Certification, Weight Training Certification, Personal Training Certification or equivalents. Current BCRPA Supervisor of Fitness Leaders for Weight Training, Group Fitness or equivalent. National Coaching Certificate, High Five Training, Early Childhood Education Certificate, Group Fitness Certification, recreation leadership training or other equivalent professional certification. Experience and understanding with outdoor recreation equipment including sport-specific equipment, sailing dinghy, paddling vessels, and powered watercraft. Standard First Aid with CPR-C with AED. Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of current practices in recreation, fitness, and recreation administration. Demonstrated ability to organize, implement and direct others in the delivery of recreation and fitness programs and services for various ages and interest groups, including large-scale events. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including excellent customer service and public relation skills. Knowledge and proven skills in building relationships with patrons and competency in dealing with children and the general public in stressful situations. Demonstrated ability to de-escalate difficult situations. Demonstrated ability to monitor and maintain budgets. Proficient computer skills including MS Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and other related office equipment. This is a full-time position of 35 hours per week and offers a comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation time, and extended health and dental coverage. The normal hourly rate is $33.57 but ranges between $32.11 to $36.49 per hour, dependent on experience.
