Assistant Herd Manager

Job DescriptionWe are seeking an assistant herd manager to join our 1450 cow dairy farm located 20 minutes outside Ashburton.This role has plenty of room for an individual to progress in the industry as well as plenty of on-farm training available.
We run a 5.5 on and 2.5 days off roster with an average of 45 hours a week.You will be part of a team of 7 and good humour is a must.We milk in an 80 bail rotary, with automatic cup removers, auto teat sprayer, protrack, in-shed feeding and a lameness detection camera.
The farm is 420ha with a neighbouring winter block used.
We use cow collars for heat detection and animal health monitoring.We calve twice a year, 450 calves in Autumn and 950 in Spring.
Our winter milkers are housed in a wintering barn.
We utilise a 3 in 2 milking regime during the majority of the year as this helps reduce hours and time in the milking shed for our animals and team.Off-farm activities are encouraged (sports, young farmers etc.)
and your roster can be flexible to suit this.Your role will include but is not limited to:MilkingWeed controlAnimal health monitoring/recordingTractor work (if interested)FencingTreating lame cowsAssisting with calvingWashing upOther general farm dutiesRemuneration is highly flexible based on skill set and experience.
