Assistant Accountant Club Support

Position Overview Are you a proactive problem solver with a passion for supporting others? Harness Racing New Zealand (HRNZ) is looking for an Assistant Accountant – Club Support to join our finance team. In this role, you'll provide essential financial support to racing clubs across New Zealand, assisting with their financial reporting, funding processes, and compliance. You'll work closely with clubs to implement systems, streamline processes, and ensure their success both on and off the track.
Key Responsibilities Analyse and summarise the financial performance of Harness Racing Clubs for HRNZ management.Provide financial reporting support, including assistance with GST and accounting queries.Assist clubs transition to Xero, create management reporting templates, develop a standard chart of accounts, and provide necessary training.Assist clubs with funding reconciliations and queries, ensuring effective management of race performance and financial allowances.Monitor compliance of clubs with their statutory requirements, including the submission of annual reports.Monitor the clubs' use of the industry online health and safety system and reporting of health and safety matters. Collate clubs' information for the group liability insurance scheme. Provide process improvement support by identifying areas for improvement and creating templates for both internal and club use.Assist with system implementations and offer training to ensure smooth adoption.Proactively spot opportunities where HRNZ can further assist clubs and suggest improvements.Undertake project management tasks as needed. Required Skills and Mindset Problem-solving: Able to approach challenges with initiative, seeking support when needed.Technology implementation: Experience in training and helping others adopt new technology.Relationship-building: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain and develop relationships with clubs.Proactive: Willingness to identify and raise issues or opportunities within the business or relating to clubs.Process Improvement: Ability to spot areas for improvement and create templates for better efficiency. Qualifications and Experience A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.Minimum of 2 years of experience in financial accounting.Strong working knowledge of Xero (required).Understanding of New Zealand GST and accounting regulations.Experience in not-for-profit organisations and knowledge of PBE reporting standards is desirable.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Commitment to continuous learning and adapting to emerging trends.
