We have an excellent opportunity for a driven and experienced Asset Engineer to join our Whanganui team. You will be working within our Alliance Contract which is a joint partnership between Downer and the Whanganui District Council, built on collaboration, trust and reliability.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering technical asset management services, enhancing infrastructure outcomes, and supporting contract teams to achieve exceptional results for our clients. Your primary responsibility will be ensuring that all engineering processes related to asset management are executed in line with company standards and meet contract requirements.

As the Asset Engineer you will provide support to the Asset Manager, the Operations, Technical Services teams as well as internal and external supply partners as one collaborative group. You will be well supported by an experienced team who work across various contracts.

Key Responsibilities:

Support contract and operations managers with maintenance activity planning, aligning with customer needs and minimising rework

Carry out analysis/modelling to determine the current and future condition of the pavement asset network

Identify and mitigate network related risks while maximising opportunities to support best for network outcomes

In cooperation with other asset management team members, develop or improve engineering systems and methodologies

Nga pukenga matua | Important Skills

You will ideally have a passion for the civil construction industry and a tertiary Engineering qualification (or equivalent). You'll also bring with you proven industry experience and knowledge but experience in advanced asset management will be advantageous. You'll also have in your skills toolkit:

Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)

Experience and skills in asset management, network condition assessment and associated data management software and the ability to understand and translate large amounts of data to usable information – as a minimum proven experience in Microsoft Excel and/or Access.

The ability to follow set processes and instructions with a high attention to detail

Superior communication skills and ability to effectively communicate complex technical issues in a clear and rigorous manner to maximize impact

Proven ability to manage multifaceted supplier/service provider relationships and develop effective working relationships
