Finish each day knowing that you have made a difference in our community.Join our tight-knit and supportive Animal & Compliance Services team!Full-time, 12-month fixed-term role based in either Mangawhai or Dargaville.About the Role As an integral member of our close-knit team of Animal and Compliance Officers, you'll help ensure community safety by promptly addressing concerns related to dogs, wandering livestock and other compliance and monitoring services.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Educating the community about animal issues, fostering understanding, and promoting compliance with relevant legislation.Conducting attack investigations by collecting evidence, interviewing victims, witnesses and dog owners.Preparing legal files for prosecution and representing Kaipara Council at court hearings when required.Maintaining accurate records and effectively managing your workload.This fixed-term position involves monitoring both sides of the beautiful Kaipara District, collaborating closely with our communities to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. A company vehicle will be made available to support you in carrying out the district-wide responsibilities of the role. This role operates on a rotating 7-day-a-week roster, including after-hours on-call shifts.
About you We are looking for someone who has a clear, calm and well-spoken manner and is easily able to connect with people from diverse backgrounds to foster strong community relationships. You will have experience in a similar regulatory role, handling issues related to dogs, stock, and compliance while maintaining effective relationships with customers and external agencies.
In addition, you will have:
A sound knowledge of Council's Policies and Bylaws, the Dog Control Act 1996 and any amendments, the Stock Impounding Act 1955 and the Health Act 1956.Experience in enforcement of legislation and an ability to understand and comply with legislation and regulations,Demonstrated experience in handling dogs and stock, including microchipping animalsExcellent time management and customer service skills, with the ability to remain calm and handle irate individuals rationally.Current first aid certificate and New Zealand driver's licence.Desired - National Certificate in Compliance and Regulatory Control (Animal Control).What we offer Apart from our beautiful location, Kaipara District Council offers a fun, supportive and diverse team environment, learning and development opportunities, health and wellbeing initiatives, and free fruit and espresso in our offices.
