Analyst / Senior Analyst Inshore Fisheries – Napier or Wellington Role type: Permanent
Location: Napier (preferred) or Wellington
Salary Range: Analyst $85,302 to $99,628 depending on skills and experience; Senior Analyst $98,955 to $115,691 depending on skills and experience.
In this role, you will support key projects and lead impactful work, including understanding and interpreting fisheries data. You do not need to be a fish expert, but you should be able to translate data into helpful insights. Responsibilities include writing aide memoirs, ministerial correspondence, cabinet papers, reviewing internal processes, regulatory design, and problem-solving.
You will work with diverse stakeholders and technical experts to monitor and advance fisheries management initiatives, including catch limit reviews and strategies to manage environmental impacts of fishing. Building trust and strong relationships is vital, as you will engage with internal teams and external stakeholders, including iwi, hapu, communities, and the fishing sectors.
Key responsibilities include:
Analyzing fisheries data and contributing to the Maui dolphin threat management plan.Analyzing crayfish stocks and assessing the environmental impacts of fishing.Monitoring fin-fish stocks and recommending changes to catch settings.We seek candidates with an undergraduate qualification or higher, preferably in marine science, resource management, law, policy, or economics. You should have:
Analytical skills to identify and define issues.Excellent communication skills (verbal, listening, and written).An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to apply Maori knowledge and values.Understanding of Government processes.Experience in establishing collaborative relationships with stakeholders.Some knowledge of fisheries management and regulatory frameworks.You do not need to meet all requirements to apply.
