Details of the offer

Anaesthetist - Permanent Role
Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury (Timaru Hospital)
South Island - New Zealand
Right now, we have a vacancy for an Anaesthetist to join the department of Anaesthesia at Timaru Hospital. Located in the South Island of New Zealand, the district of South Canterbury is centrally located and an easy place to live and work, with instant access to an array of outdoor activities.
Anaesthesia Department at Timaru Hospital
The team of ten actively services four theatres, an Obstetric Unit (averaging 590 births per year), and a combined Intensive Care Unit / Coronary Care Unit, all with the assistance of Anaesthetic Technicians and skilled Theatre, Day Patient Stay and ICU Nursing staff.
The Department is also responsible for Persistent Pain Services in conjunction with Clinical Nurse Specialists, so a subspecialist interest in this area or in Intensive Care would be viewed as beneficial.
Anaesthetist Specialist Role
This position provides efficient, safe and appropriate anaesthetic services, intensive care unit and pain management treatment as well as day patient and outpatient clinic sessions.
The position is part time or full time (to be negotiated & agreed) and works during the normal hours of work between 8.00am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday; and on a rostered On Call basis outside normal hours during the week, at weekends and on public holidays.
On Call Duties:
The after-hours roster frequency is 1:9 to provide cover outside of the normal hours of work, at weekends and on Public Holidays. Whilst providing cover you are first on call.
There is also scope to consider engaging in some Private Practice with the local Bidwill Trust Private Hospital at which a number of our existing team have a professional association.
Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury is responsible for the delivery of services throughout the South Canterbury region and Timaru Hospital (131 beds) serves a district population of approximately 50,000 based in a General Hospital Facility, which has just commenced a significant refurbishment programme, providing our local community with critical 24/7 services such as ED, ICU / CCU, General, Orthopaedic, & ENT Surgery, O&G, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Oncology & Palliative Care, Internal Medicine and Paediatrics.
Integrity, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence are at the heart of everything we do. We are a proudly diverse team, as we know a diverse and inclusive workforce achieves the best outcomes for our patients and communities.
If you share in these core values and bring them into every aspect of your patient care, we encourage you to apply.
Why Timaru and the South Canterbury region?
We are the best big little city you will find, located on the coast and Caroline Bay, with the majestic Southern Alps in the background. Timaru is an easy place to live, family friendly, and with easy access to an array of outdoor activities including beaches, ski fields, lakes, mountains, and hiking tracks.
Free parking and an easy commute to work really helps with true work-life balance!
