Patience Becoming an Ambulance and Events volunteer doesn't happen overnight, it takes dedication, time and a lot of hard work - this is rewarded by being an integral part of your community and the opportunity to work in a strong team environment alongside other skilled professionals, while gaining leadership and communication skills through dealing with a broad range of people in diverse situations. Time When you become an Ambulance and Events volunteer you are committing to a minimum of 24 hours a month to supporting your community by helping at local Events or manning a First Response Ambulance. Compassion You will be present for your community during the best and worst times of their lives, this is both a privilege and a responsibility and requires compassion, empathy, calmness and professionalism. You will be embracing the diversity of our communities, while providing quality care to patients. This includes: A two-day in person Operations Induction course A two-day in person Operations Risk Management course which is designed to help you stay safe in your role A two-day in person Ambulance Driving course which is supported by online learning and the completion of a driving logbook A four-day in person First Responder course which is designed to enable you to assess patients and manage immediately life-threatening emergencies in the community. This is supported by online learning and the completion of a First Responder Student workbook Qualifications Ko wai koe - About you: Before you apply, you will need the following : A full and clean NZ driver's licence for at least 12 months or have completed an approved NZTA advanced driving course (if full licence held for less than 12 months) To be 18 years of age or over A New Zealand citizenship or permanent resident status A Clean Police record To be able pass the St John assessment requirements - physical / literacy / numeracy test plus an interview Meet our health requirements by passing a health questionnaire To be trustworthy and reliable Have excellent communication skills (written and oral) Have great time management To be computer literate At the completion of the Operations Risk Management and First Responder courses you will be issued with a NZQA approved Level 3 New Zealand Certificate in Emergency Care (First Responder) and will hold the clinical practice level of First Responder (the foundation clinical level for ambulance in New Zealand). Once accepted, your online, classroom training and workbooks will take around 6-9 months to complete. Commitment to continuous learning and training You will be required to attend regular Station Trainings, these keep you skills fresh and connect you with your team. We also hold biannual refresher trainings (called EEC) that you will need to attend. Once you are a First Responder there are opportunities to advance your qualifications and you can apply to enrol on our New Zealand Diploma in Ambulance Practice, this takes program takes 18 months and will upskill you to an ATP (Authority to Practice) of EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) Additional Information Me pehea te tuku tono - How to apply This Volunteer role is to be based out of the Takaka Station.
