Allied Health Clinical Coordinator - Acute at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Southern, Southland Southland Hospital, Health New Zealand - Southern
Permanent role, 0.5 FTE (20 hours per week) with additional clinical hours required
Salary band: $117,420 - 122,570 per annum, pro-rata

Join the Allied Health Unit at Southland Hospital as an Acute Clinical Coordinator , where your leadership will directly impact the quality and efficiency of patient care. This permanent 0.5 FTE role combines hands-on clinical responsibilities with a central focus on coordinating patient flow in the acute wards.
Mo te turanga - About the role
As the Clinical Coordinator, your primary responsibility will be to optimise service delivery by overcoming barriers to patient flow and enhancing collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Working in consultation with the line manager, you will coordinate a team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, and Allied Health Assistants to ensure smooth and efficient care transitions and enable timely, effective, and holistic patient care.
You will:
Direct the daily utilisation of staff, balancing skill mix and resources to meet patient needs
Support referral triage and caseload management to ensure patients receive prompt and high-quality care
Address challenges in patient pathways and transitions to optimise patient flow and outcomes
Coordinate staffing requirements, including leave planning, to maintain service coverage
Facilitate interprofessional communication, fostering collaboration across the wider healthcare team.
This role demands a comprehensive understanding of service specifications, multidisciplinary team roles, and clinical pathways to ensure seamless patient flow.
To excel in this role, you'll need to be the following:
Patient-focused: Dedicated to ensuring patients receive the right care at the right time
A New Zealand Registered Allied Health Professional: With at least five years of clinical experience (three in acute care) and a current Annual Practicing Certificate in a relevant Allied Health Therapy discipline (Social Worker, Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist)
A strategic thinker or problem-solver: Skilled in addressing barriers to patient flow and optimising care pathways. You will be highly organised, honest, trustworthy and open to feedback
A strong collaborator: Able to foster effective teamwork and partnerships across disciplines. You must understand the roles of each of the allied health professions within this clinical area of practice
Committed to equity: Demonstrated experience implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in healthcare
Leadership experience in a healthcare setting

The Allied Health Clinical Coordinator will be required to provide direct clinical care within a relevant scope of practice in the acute wards.

Utu whanui - Salary range
This role belongs to the DHB/PSA Allied, Public Health, Scientific and Technical Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and falls between Designated B, step 1 ($117,420 p.a) and Step 3 ($122,570 p.a)
