Our Organisation Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua MidCentral (MidCentral) is part of Te Whatu Ora, Health New Zealand and provides healthcare services to over 180,000 people across the Manawatu, Horowhenua and Tararua regions.
With a large hospital campus in Palmerston North, it also provides key health care and support services to neighbouring communities.
The Opportunity We currently have a new and exciting opportunity for two Allied Health Assistants to join the therapy services team at the STAR Centre (Services for Treatment, Assessment and Rehabilitation) at Palmerston North hospital. These are newly developed roles with the focus on supporting the allied health therapy services in the ongoing rehabilitation of patients in the Older Persons Assessments and Liaison (OPAL) ward, the Palmerston North inpatient rehabilitation ward and the acute stroke service.
The tasks of this position are many and varied and include undertaking patient mobilization, activity of daily living programmes, remedial therapies, disability equipment management, the provision of health information and support, and associated administration duties.
This is an 18 hour per week six month fixed term position working Friday, Saturday, Sunday 9.00 - 3.30pm daily. There is potential that these roles may become permanent.
What are we looking for? The successful applicant(s) will be required to work under the direction of a registered allied health professional (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Therapy, Dietitian or Social Work) providing clinical support and assistance to the team where required. The successful applicant(s) will be someone who has effective oral and interpersonal communication skills, is able to work under pressure and enjoys meeting the challenges of a varied and changing workload.
You will need to be aware of principles of person-centred practice, be sensitive to cultural differences and committed to the Treaty of Waitangi.
