Korero mo te turanga - About the role

In the Allied Health Assistant role, you will be undertaking a wide range of activities at the request of our Allied Health and Nursing staff. Day to day, you will be installing and teaching people how to use equipment and coaching people in activities designed to help recover strength, cognition and function. An important part of the role will be reporting back to the team regarding progress, as well as noticing if our clients/whanau are struggling and require more support.

Mo to matou ropu - About our team

We know people recover more quickly at home so the main focus of AWHI is to work with people in their own home to help them regain or maintain their independence after a hospital admission. These people may have been medically unwell, sustained a significant injury or had a stroke. Our team consists of Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Speech Language Therapists and other Allied Health Assistants, and you would have the opportunity to work with all of these team members. The team is District wide including Hutt Valley and the Capital Coast area. The primary location of this role is the Hutt Valley but staff may be requested to work from Capital Coast sites if required.

Mou - About you

The Assistants are key members of the team. Our clients need someone kind, efficient, good at communicating and who is able to motivate people from a range of cultures. You will need to be able to effectively interpret and deliver on the work requested by our health professionals and be committed to on-going learning, either holding or being prepared to enrol for the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) Health Assistance Strand. Experience working for the public health system would be preferred, as would familiarity with equipment management including credentialing with Enable NZ in Service Accreditation as this will support our health professionals to optimise their delegation. We are committed to improving better health outcomes for Maori and Pacific whanau. As we continue to develop the way we work with Maori and Pacific whanau, we would value more applicants, with the right skills, from these communities. The team is continuing to evolve and our roles are too. This position is likely to become rostered and rotating shifts within a 7 day service.
