Community Directorate - Advisory Lead Position
The Community Directorate in Auckland Council is responsible for supporting elected members to make investment decisions on Tamaki Makaurau's parks and open spaces, community services, and community facilities. The way our kaimahi (staff) support elected members to make these decisions is through providing robust, well-constructed, timely advice.
As part of the Advisory Unit Lead Team, the Advisory Lead role supports the directorate to develop and deliver this advice in a range of ways. This could include advice construction or review of advice (reports, memos, and presentations), communication of performance insights to inform quality improvements, and strategic relationship management to support quality advice capability uplift.
A day in the life of an Advisory Lead is varied and dynamic. You will be involved in many different topics and subjects. This could be through the commissioning and review of several pieces of advice at all stages of development and delivery, supporting kaimahi to learn how to use our advice review system, identifying insights about how the advice operating model (directorate-wide) is working, providing those insights to the Advisory Lead Team or department lead teams, and working one-on-one with authors and reviewers across the directorate to lift the quality and timeliness of an author's advice.
You will bring a blend of experience in working with elected members or in a stakeholder/relationship management role, along with experience in the policy or advisory space.
To be successful in this role you will also:
Have excellent written and spoken communication skills, ideally including knowledge of Auckland Council's Quality Advice Standards and Our Voice style guide.
Be confident and adept at building effective working relationships with kaimahi at all levels (senior leadership through to operational teams).
Be a problem solver who is adaptable and results-driven but also able to keep the strategic goal and bigger picture in mind.
Have a penchant for continuous improvement and a curiosity about how things work.
Be a team player who is comfortable working to deadlines.
In return for your expertise, you'll be part of a team of passionate professionals who have a strong Tikanga (set of values). You'll have the support of an experienced team with a strong vision for growth and be part of delivering work that makes a difference for the experience of Auckland's communities. You will be in a team and organisation that supports and nurtures its people.
