Ngapuhi Iwi Social Services, also known as 'NISS', was established to be a key service provider to Ngapuhi, by Ngapuhi and the wider community.
NISS was set up independently as an Iwi Social Service in 1996 and a year later was registered as a limited liability company. In 2006, NISS became a subsidiary of Te Runanga-A-Iwi-O-Ngapuhi.
With offices in Kaikohe, NISS is one of the largest Iwi Social Service Providers in Aotearoa, and access to their advice and services is free and confidential to all.
Purpose of the Position
The youth social worker will provide early and responsive social work interventions with young people in years 9 to 15 and their whanau, where concerns have been identified which put their education, safety, or wellbeing (including mental health) at risk. The youth social worker will be school-based and is part of the broader social support/pastoral care team within the school.
Who we are looking for:
Proven ability in strengths-based youth social work assessments and in setting SMART goals with young people.
Sound developmental knowledge of young people, especially in relation to mental health and neurodiversity.
A passion for working with at-risk youth.
Report writing ability.
Creative thinking and problem-solving ability.
Ability to develop high-quality relationships with internal and external stakeholders and whanau.
Computer literate and competent on standard Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to work without supervision (able to work in sole role while contributing to a wider team).
Commitment to working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
Good knowledge in working with Pacific, Maori, and new immigrant students and families.
Full Driver's License.
