Hutec Engineering provide comprehensive engineering services to a wide range of heavy industrial clients throughout New Zealand and overseas in the geothermal / hydro power generation, pulp and paper, timber products and dairy industries. We are currently seeking a Trade Qualified Workshop Fabrication Supervisor.
About the role
We are on the lookout for a dedicated Workshop Fabrication Supervisor with extensive heavy fabrication experience to join our team. In this role you will not only be hands on in our fabrication processes, but you will also be responsible for leading & developing our fabrication team and delivering success in our fabrication department. You will play a key role in ensuring we meet our schedules, deadlines and departmental budgets, while maintaining the highest level of quality standards, safety & workmanship.
Tasks & responsibilities
Supervise and support the day to day running of the fabrication department and fabrication team (Tradesman & Apprentices) helping them to stay motivated and on track, ensuring works are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Support and enforce the requirements and expectations around Health & Safety in the workplace ensuring the team understands all hazards, risks and safe work practices in our workshop, on sites we visit and, in all work to be performed.
Assist the HR Planning Manager & Project Managers in the scheduling of work and resources through and in the fabrication, department ensuring delivery dates, target hours and deadlines are met.
Ensure all quality expectations are communicated, understood and delivered for all fabrication works at Hutec.
Oversee final QA of all fabrication works and ensure best practice techniques have been adhered too, while also ensuring that all documentation, certification and procedures are current and completed as and when required.
Ensuring staff have all materials, tasks, drawings, relevant competencies, tooling, consumables and safety information before any works in the fabrication department commence.
Assist the project managers in the estimating of fabrication works and procurement of materials, consumables and tooling for fabrication jobs.
Identify and support the ongoing development, training and upskilling of our fabrication team.
Ad hoc supervision tasks such as updating of documentation, tasks and drawings, Approving daily timesheets for the fabrication team, Attending and running toolbox meetings, Completing workshop audits and 360 reviews, Overseeing the cleaning and maintenance schedules/processes of all fabrication tooling, leads, consumables and fabrication machinery.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications & experience
A Level 4 Welding and Fabrication qualification (Trade Certificate) or higher, with extensive experience in heavy & pipe fabrication. (essential)
A minimum of 5 years' experience in proven and effective fabrication supervision (essential)
A strong focus and commitment to health and safety in the workplace following health and safety practices in all aspects of work.
Leadership skills and a collaborative attitude to guide & inspire your team and foster a safe and supportive team environment.
Excellent service delivery skills, with a focus on client relationships.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral - English language) in a trade-based environment with strong personal planning and organisational ability.
Ability to set priorities, work to deadlines and to work with minimal direct supervision.
Strong attention to detail with effective problem-solving skills and excellent organisational skills.

Computer literate with experience with Microsoft Office
Must hold a current NZ Full Driver's License.
