Full time MOTAT is an interactive museum dedicated to creating a fun and visually stimulating environment for our visitors. With a unique mix of collections and experiences, we are currently seeking a highly motivated Workshop Engineer to join our Rail and Steam section. This is a unique opportunity to work in a distinctive setting, contributing to the preservation of New Zealand's railway heritage. About the Role: As the Workshop Engineer – Rail Infrastructure, you will be the go-to specialist for rail infrastructure within the Rail & Steam workshops. Working under the guidance of the Head of Collection Workshops and closely with the Senior Workshop Engineer Rail & Steam, you will lead the section's infrastructure projects and contribute to maintenance, preservation, and restoration projects within the section. To be successful in this role, you will need: Experience in heavy engineering, with a background in rail infrastructure maintenance being highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to supervise and plan work, determine and manage project budgets. Experience in operating workshop machinery and track maintenance equipment. Computer literacy, including all Microsoft packages. An understanding of museum practices related to heritage artefacts would be beneficial. This is a 40-hour working week, fixed term until the 30 June 2026. There is some flexibility in the working hours to allow for later hours on Tuesday to accommodate Rail Workshop open hours.
