Work Leader - Datums Squad - Principal Level Surveyor (BGS085) Now is an exciting time to join Land Information New Zealand. Within our Agile structure, you will have the opportunity to work across traditional domains of geodesy, hydrography, topography and property through the lens of data, technology, products, and services value streams.
We are seeking an experienced leader with a geodetic or surveying background to join our Datums Squad in this Principal level role. In this role you will lead and support the Datums Squad to succeed by ensuring 90-day increment plans are realistic, achievable, and maintained for each increment. You will be capable and comfortable working with Agile techniques, working across Value Streams and with other Work Leads to successfully deliver 90-day plans. You will be responsible for the squad maintaining the NZGD2000 and NZVD2016 datums, maintaining and commissioning New Zealand's geodetic infrastructure including the Warkworth VLBI site, the PositioNZ GNSS network, and a vast network of geodetic ground marks, and trig beacons. With big changes on the horizon such as SouthPAN coming fully online and ubiquitous positioning becoming a reality, we are developing to meet New Zealand's future needs. You will provide oversight and leadership in planning and delivering this important work.
In this role, you will: Lead and empower a skilled technical team to deliver excellence Have oversight of Geodetic initiatives such as PNT, VLBI, Datum modernisation Participate and/or lead in National level committees ie. Positioning infrastructure Oversee the work of the squad in determining the future of New Zealand's Datums Oversee the delivery of the national geodetic system Coach and mentor more junior staff Lead projects and areas of work as necessary Empower the team to function efficiently Demonstrated experience in leading and developing high-performing teams Strong track record in work planning and delivery management Hold a suitable tertiary qualification (BSurv or equivalent), a graduate degree would be an advantage. Have 10+ years of experience in the field of Survey and/or Geodesy Possess a solid understanding of New Zealand's geodetic system Have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts to people at all levels Highly desirable: Experience in Agile management would be an advantage Experience with government procurement and contract management practices Toitu Te Whenua plays a vital role in understanding, developing, and caring for New Zealand's whenua, moana and arawai (land, sea and waterways).
