We are seeking an experienced Winery Operations Manager with strong manufacturing and production expertise to drive our operational excellence across all aspects of wine production. This position is based at the spectacular Mission Estate in beautiful Hawke's Bay and is a key leadership role reporting to the Chief Operating Officer.Key Responsibilities:Oversee and optimize the end-to-end production process, from vineyard operations to wine production, bottling, warehousing, and distribution, ensuring maximum efficiency, quality, and sustainability.Oversee all viticulture operations including vineyard planning, planting, canopy management, irrigation, pest control, and harvest scheduling.Develop and implement robust production schedules and workflows, aligning resources and capacity to meet production targets, sales forecasts, and seasonal demands.Actively manage wine production and bottling operations, with a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and supporting the team during peak production periods.Streamline and standardize operating procedures (SOPs) across viticulture, winemaking, and bottling operations to ensure compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards.Drive continuous improvement initiatives in manufacturing processes to reduce waste, increase yield, and improve overall operational performance.Ensure effective inventory management for bulk wine, packaging materials, and finished goods, optimizing warehouse space and minimizing product losses.Collaborate closely with the winemaking team on production plans, blending strategies, and bottling schedules to meet quality standards and production efficiency goals.Manage logistics and warehousing operations, ensuring smooth coordination of inventory, order fulfilment, and product distribution to ensure on-time delivery.Lead and mentor a diverse team including viticulturists, winemakers, cellar workers, bottling line operators, and warehouse staff, fostering a high-performance culture.Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor production output, manufacturing efficiency, and operational costs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including Health and Safety, SWINZ, EMS, and sustainability certifications.Skills and Experience:Strong technical expertise in manufacturing and supply chain management.Proven experience in driving operational efficiency, process improvement, and quality assurance in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and achieve operational excellence.Solid commercial acumen and experience managing budgets, cost controls, and resource allocation.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing software.Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends during peak production periods.Wine industry experience would beneficial but not essential.
