Full Time Quartz Reef Wines is inviting applications for the pivotal role of Winemaker. This is a long-term role that will suit someone looking to bring their knowledge and experience into a small, dynamic team. Your contribution will directly impact the growth and wellbeing of this well-established brand into the future.As Winemaker at Quartz Reef Wines, you will be based at the Cromwell winery joining a team consistently working to deliver on their vision of producing high quality wines within a sustainable and profitable environment. With accountability to the General Manager/Owner; this is a senior role that will be responsible for all winemaking operations. As a proud brand advocate, the Winemaker will represent the business and the region promoting the story of brand and place.Established in 1996; Quartz Reef prides itself as a producer of high-quality wines, reflecting their 30ha unique pioneer Bendigo estate vineyard through biodynamic and organic farming. Recognised for premium hand-crafted Methode Traditionnelle; one of New Zealand's most loved premium sparkling wines, and its highly regarded Central Otago Estate Pinot Noir.Our other award-winning wines are Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Rose and Austrian specialty, Gruner Veltliner, with distribution in New Zealand and globally across Australia, Asia, America and Europe.Requirements:Tertiary qualification in Oenology.5 years minimum experience in still and sparkling wine production.Extensive experience in sparkling wine making, including running a disgorging line.Advanced technical and mechanical knowledge and understanding of winery equipment.Understanding of viticulture and biodiversity.Strong leadership and people management skills.Ability to work independently, managing your own workload and be highly organised.Strong communication, verbal, written and mathematical skills; including Microsoft Excel and Word.Passionate about wine.A great sense of humour, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the team.Proactive and attention to detail.Valid forklift and driver's license.Physically capable of performing operational duties.Ability to work flexible/extended hours when required.All applicants must be NZ based or have the right to work in New Zealand with a full residential visa.Responsibilities include:Ensure wine quality is always maintained.All winemaking, from grape receival to finished product, with a strong focus on sparkling wine production.All vintage operations, including supervision and training vintage staff.Laboratory work.Warehouse logistics.Maintain all winemaking and vineyard records including liaising with auditors: e.g. WSMP, BioGro/Demeter, SWNZ, Customs.Monitor safety standards and ensure cellar operations are conducted in accordance with health and safety requirements.Remuneration/Rewards:This role provides the opportunity to work and live in beautiful Central Otago.A strong well-established brand and team.A permanent senior position and will include a competitive remuneration package.No two days are the same.How To ApplyPlease email your application, including CV and covering letter.
