At NZCL, we are dedicated to support people with disabilities in New Zealand. Our Whanau Support Services reflect our belief that all New Zealanders deserve to live fully, have equal opportunities, and achieve their ambitions. We are looking for a part-time Support Worker in the Nelson area for our Whanau Support Services. What does a Support Worker do? We are currently seeking people who can be mentors/companions to those living with disabilities. This role is to support them to continue to live independently, by assisting with budgeting, meal preparation, assisting in daily living, taking them to fun activities in the community and more. Making sure the person is at the centre of everything you do, and that the person lives a rich and fulfilling life. This role may also involve looking after younger children, supporting them to reach their goals and aspirations, while also giving the whanau some respite. What do you get? Earn competitive pay rates between $23.38 up to $29.10 per hour. Earn while you learn with free training towards NZQA Health & Wellbeing. Job security, work phone, travel allowances, Employee benefits, sick/annual leave and more. Who are we looking for? People who are passionate about helping others, are kind and understanding. Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred, including experience with disabilities and challenges behaviours. Availability to work after school hours and weekends is essential. Full driver's license and owning your own vehicle is essential. Whilst experience in supporting people would be an advantage, it is not a necessity for those with the right attitude. We are seeking somebody who has the initiative to push people for their goals, is energetic, outgoing, and can think outside the box. You need to be respectful of others' thinking, and their way of living life that may be different from your own. Empathy, respect, and cultural awareness are important in this role as the people we support come from diverse backgrounds with varying needs and interests.
