This role is based in Southland.
This role can be either part-time or full-time, and depending on the candidate's skillset and flexibility it may also include work in Wenita's Otago forests and head office in Mosgiel.
About the Role As the Southern Forest Supervisor, you'll take on a diverse range of responsibilities, including:
Contractor Management: Oversee, coordinate, and monitor contractors' operations within the forests.Land Use: Manage activities related to silviculture, harvesting, health & safety, and security.Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with forest owners, neighbouring landowners, and other key stakeholders.Data Collection, Planning, and Reporting: Collect and analyse forest measurement and operational data, plan work programmes, and produce written and verbal reports as needed.Emergency Response: Act as the first point of contact for emergency services in case of fire or other incidents on the land.Compliance: Ensure compliance with forestry industry regulations, focusing on health and safety and environmental standards.
About You We are seeking an individual who is passionate about the forestry industry, values teamwork, and fosters productive working relationships.
You will have a solid understanding of harvesting and silviculture operations and demonstrate initiative with excellent communication skills.
The ability to independently manage tasks and situations whilst knowing when to seek guidance is essential.
A strong commitment to health and safety and environmental compliance is a must.
Requirements The ideal candidate will have:
5+ years of experience in a similar forestry role is desirableA valid driver's licenceA current first aid certificateBasic chainsaw knowledge (Competenz units 6916 & 6917)UAV operating experienceWenita offers a competitive package for the right candidate.
