Far North District Council is looking for a dedicated and skilled Waters Technical Officer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the sustainable management of our water resources, contributing to the health and well-being of our residents and the environment.Te Wero - The ChallengeThe Waters Technical Officer is essential in the planning, management, and maintenance of the district's three vital water services: drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including conducting technical assessments, performing fieldwork, supporting various projects, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. The goal is to provide safe, reliable, and efficient water services to our community.Key Responsibilities:Conduct technical assessments to evaluate the condition and performance of water infrastructure.Perform fieldwork to monitor and maintain water systems.Support projects aimed at improving water services and infrastructure.Ensure compliance with local, regional, and national regulatory requirements.Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders to achieve water management goals.This position reports directly to the Team Leader - Water Services, working closely with a dedicated team to ensure the highest standards of water service delivery.We're looking for someone with:A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Water Management, or a related field.3-5 years of experience in water services management or a related technical field, preferably within local government or consultancy.Proficiency in water management software and tools (e.g., GIS, SCADA, hydraulic modelling).Knowledge of New Zealand's water management regulations, standards, and best practices, including the Resource Management Act (RMA).Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.Ability to conduct fieldwork and site inspections.Strong organisational and time management skills.Familiarity with local regulations, industry standards, and environmental requirements.A progressive mindset focused on continual improvement.Far North District Council is proud of our diverse workforce and is committed to maintaining an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected.
