Barrhill Chertsey Irrigation Limited (BCI) is a farmer-focused co-operative that owns and operates irrigation, electricity generation, and stock water infrastructure capable of delivering water to circa 30,000 ha between the Rangitata and Rakaia Rivers on the East Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. Utilising over 300km of pipeline, open channel race, 40+ pump stations, and over 200 offtakes, we deliver sustainable, reliable water, within the constraints of our water use and nutrient discharge consents, to a vast array of farming and commercial operations throughout Mid Canterbury. The Role This is a new senior position with BCI, created as part of our investment in expanded capability and capacity within the business. With future projects to deliver and a strong focus on proactive asset management, BCI is looking for a dedicated individual to deliver strategic engineering planning, asset management, and field engineering services to ensure the short- and long-term cost-effective delivery of water to BCI's shareholders and service customers. This role will lead the provision of engineering solutions that are consistent with the company's strategic goals and ensure the safe and efficient delivery of water. As a member of the BCI Management team, you will assist with wider scheme projects as required, working closely with other functional leaders, particularly the CEO and Operations Manager, and contributing actively to the wider BCI team. Responsibilities Asset Management – review existing assets and refine the asset management plan, including capex and maintenance requirements. Infrastructure project management – identify and implement solutions to infrastructure issues. Long-term infrastructure maintenance and planning – including industry-leading peer review and quality assurance practices. Stakeholder Management – respond promptly and professionally to stakeholder inquiries relating to water supply/delivery. Collaboration with other irrigation schemes to identify opportunities. Planning, Reporting, and Budgeting - contribute to planning the operational maintenance and capital works programmes at both an annual and strategic level. Leadership – demonstrate and support excellence, meeting or exceeding individual, functional, and Company performance targets. Health and Safety – contribute proactively to improved H&S practices and outcomes within BCI and with service customers. This is a broad role suited to someone with proven experience within a highly effective team that is focused on achieving excellence and meeting or exceeding individual, functional, and company performance targets. What do you need? Qualifications and Experience Tertiary qualification in a relevant field. 5+ years' experience in water infrastructure engineering. Class 1 driver licence is essential. Attributes Ability to contribute effectively within a small team. Ability to identify and develop opportunities for improvement. Practical implementation skills and a can-do attitude. A strong understanding and commitment to the company's goals and objectives. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and report writing skills. Professionalism and the respect of all stakeholders.
