Our Head office in Ngaaruawahiaa is an open plan hot desking environment, it includes a collab space as well as unique areas to work or meet with colleagues, Waikato River walks and the chance to hit the Hakarimatas on your lunch break. We also have an onsite cafeteria, free parking, work-life balance and flexible working.
The Waikato district and Te Kaunihera aa Takiwaa o Waikato have much to offer. We prioritise the well-being of our employees and have cultivated an environment of hard work, respect, trust, empathy, and support.
We have an exciting time coming up in the Waste Services team with several large interrelated projects in the contracts, compliance, and strategy space. These projects are a mix of statutory and operational and link to our Long Term Plan and have rates impacts, so we need to do the work to make sure we are delivering effective waste services for our community but in the best and most affordable way possible. We have a full time 24 month fixed term opportunity for a Waste Programme Lead to join our Waste Services Team and get these projects up and over the line!
What I do? Work closely with contractors to deliver the 17 a review and solid waste audits. Lead the review of litter bin policy development including rationalisation of litter bin provision and service in our district. Lead consultation on the implementation of a food waste service. Work alongside our Contracts & Partnership staff to lead the preparation for the implementation of this. Support the manager and work with colleagues on the early stages of procuring new waste contracts as required. Ensure council is complying with the Ministry for the Environments new data provision requirements and consultation requirements for waste documents. Lead a diverse team of stakeholders to increase diversion at the Huntly Transfer Station, including managing physical works programme. Design and lead the team on WMMP consultation with the community and stakeholders. Introduce a Solid Waste Bylaw & licensing system for operators and facilities, aligning with the regional template developed by Waikato Regional Council. What I bring? An understanding of, or the desire to learn about, te ao Maaori and tikanga. Knowledge, or a willingness to gain an appreciation, of te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ture Whaimana. Experienced relationship builder with great communication skills. Confident to develop and deliver "easy to engage with", yet compliant, public consultations. You have at least four years' experience at a senior level within council waste team. You have sound knowledge of the Waste Minimisation Act and council responsibilities under it. You understand council planning processes and how they link to waste planning and Ministry requirements. Demonstrated success in leading projects and programmes of work with several interdependencies and legislative requirements. You are comfortable progressing work solo and reaching out for support when needed. Why join our team? We're a flexible working organisation - yes this means you can work from home, but it's also so much more than that, we encourage our people to work in ways that provide the best outcomes rather than measuring success by time spent at a desk. Our team is small, yet we get a lot done and we deliver for our community and the environment, if that is important to you, please apply!
Are you interested? Submit your application today! Application Closing Date: Tuesday, 2 July at 5pm.
