Waste touches all aspects of how we live, work, and play in our city - having long-term impacts on our environment and contributing to Wellington's carbon emissions.
To become a net zero carbon capital by 2050, we need people who have the skills, experience, and commitment to manage and minimise waste.
Our new Waste Strategy team, formed to help the Council meet its bold goals, is focused on implementing the zero waste strategy, and naturally people in our team are wanting to be the champions of change - making a difference for generations to come.
The role & you As our Waste Planner, you'll support the delivery of actions to implement the Zero Waste Strategy and associated work programmes.
You'll be involved in projects around: Kerbside rubbish reviews Organics collection Construction and development waste diversion You'll be gathering data and working to understand the trends and meaning - gaining insights to share with the team to allow informed decisions to be made.
As you would expect from such a role, you'll need to be: Analytical Comfortable understanding and managing data Passionate for our cause Capable of prioritising and organising your work effectively Add to that a customer focus in your work, great communication skills, and an understanding of Te Ao Maori, climate change, and waste management, and this could be the next career step for you.
