Warehouse Department Manager - Days

Details of the offer

About us
At Ocado Logistics, our teams are putting the world's retailers online using the cloud, robotics, AI, and IoT. We provide services to partner clients globally via our innovative advanced robotics technology, known as the Ocado Smart Platform ("OSP"), which drives our highly automated, multi-million pound Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs).
In our CFCs - together with the proprietary software applications - we operate a world-class online grocery business that automates the single pick of products, ready for your online delivery.
About the role
We are looking for a proactive, energetic and enthusiastic Warehouse Department Manager (known internally as an Area Manager) to work Days at our Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC) in Erith, Kent. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the performance of a designated department within the warehouse of the CFC in an efficient and professional manner, ensuring all targets are met without loss in performance to the business and within the site management structure.
As an Area Manager, you will lead the daily running of site operations with responsibilities relating to all aspects of site safety and quality of service, delivering operational targets within the agreed budget and time frame. You will report to the Operations Manager and may be required to deputise in their absence, as well as handling all aspects of employee management such as probation periods, absence management, and performance management.
This role is for 48 hours per week, on any 4 days from 7 rotation starting at 05:30 am. Due to having two rotating teams to cover the operation, there will be occasions where both teams are working on the same day, on a crossover shift, meaning there will be a requirement to occasionally work a 5th day per week, as needed.
Please note the Area Manager role within Ocado involves managing the warehouse operatives and the day-to-day running of a single department within the warehouse and not multiple sites across a region.
About you
The ideal candidate will shape and drive a world-class employee experience and environment to attract and retain the right people and lead your teams to foster a culture of respect, identity, loyalty, trust, and aspiration where people are engaged and motivated to commit to Ocado and our values. You will also ensure KPIs are a vital focus across your site, including labour turnover, absence rates, and engagement scores.
You will continuously encourage self-improvement, training, and development of your teams to support succession planning and aim to drive and develop initiatives that encourage site-wide engagement and enhance morale. Experience in conducting formal meetings, understanding and applying the relevant policies appropriately is desired. Strong verbal and written communication and numeracy skills are a must, along with a passion for dealing with people and a focus to achieve employee satisfaction.
Knowledge of food safety standards and compliance are preferred, and previous experience in a warehouse or logistics environment is essential.
What do I get in return?
Our employee benefits are designed for you; we care about people and we've ensured we have a wealth of benefits that focus on your well-being.

Private healthcare; Car salary sacrifice and Cycle to Work schemes; A range of amazing benefits, including Free Shares and Life Assurance;
15% off your Ocado.com shopping; Company shop offering discounts of up to 70% on groceries from leading brands and major retailers;
Exclusive travel, retail, and leisure discounts nationwide; 22 weeks paid maternity leave and 6 weeks paid paternity leave (once relevant service requirements complete);

Enhanced Pension scheme, matching employee contributions up to 7% of salary; Employee Assistance Programme.
We're in it together; we are proud of what we do, we can be even better.
Ocado is an equal opportunities employer and it takes its obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 very seriously. We treat all our employees fairly and equally, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, marital or civil partner status, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, pregnancy and maternity, trade union membership or offending background, or the fact that they are a part-time worker or a fixed-term employee. Our employees and applicants for employment shall not be disadvantaged by any policies or conditions of service which cannot be justified as necessary for operational purposes.
Closing Date : 00:00 on Tuesday 15th October 2024 - Due to the fast-paced nature of our business, this vacancy may close sooner.
