Internal Medicine Specialist – Christchurch About VSA Our mission at Veterinary Specialist Aotearoa (VSA) is to provide the most advanced, specialist veterinary care in the country. With that motivation, hard work and passion we have established ourselves as New Zealand's leading specialist veterinary organisation. VSA was started over 20 years ago with the first privately owned veterinary referral hospital in New Zealand. From that first hospital in Mt Albert, Auckland, we now have 3 world class specialist referral hospitals across the country working to support the wider veterinary community and their patients. Every patient we see is regarded as an important member of their family so we are proud to be able to provide the highest level of care when they need us the most.
The Position You will be joining a well-established and very experienced team in Christchurch – with a busy referral surgical case load, physiotherapy service, advanced imaging (in house 64-slice CT) and 24 hour patient care. Our internal medicine department currently comprises three specialists and one cardiologist plus residents. This role is distinctive, offering the chance to become part of our supportive internal medicine team within our hospital group while simultaneously establishing services in the vibrant city of Christchurch. In addition, this role is supported by the wider hospital departments including specialist surgeons and radiologists.
This unique position allows you to be the sole provider of specialist internal medicine services in the South Island, providing an unparalleled opportunity for professional impact and growth. With the autonomy to build and develop the service, we are committed to providing robust support throughout the process. Enjoy 4 day work weeks that foster a better work-life balance and increased employment satisfaction.
As part of your role you will be able to influence the recruitment of specialists, shape the nursing team, and contribute to the design of intern and residency training programs for this service.
Requirements of the role: Board qualified specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine or a registrar planning to sit for Boards (Fellow ANZCVS or Diplomate ACVIM, ECVIM).
How to get in touch? If you are a registered specialist or registrar in small animal internal medicine looking to be at the forefront of veterinary care, VSA welcomes your application. For a confidential discussion, contact Clinical Director, Dr. Alastair Coomer at ******.
